We’re at Global Pet Expo 2019 and we’ve found some pretty amazing products. Even better, we’ve found some pretty amazing stories behind the products and one we found was the Barrett Ball, a re-invented rubber ball and 100% of the profits go to Dogs4Warriors.
We see all sorts of pets at Global Pet Expo, and they’re beautiful. One gorgeous dog we came across was Barrett, the 85-lb German Shepard service dog of James Hayes.
Hayes is a heroic disabled war veteran who joined the Army after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. After three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2001 and 2005, James returned home a hero suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
James’s aunt worked with the VA (Veterans Affairs) and knew a service dog would be beneficial to James, so he applied to Dogs4Warriors. Two-and-a-half-years later, he was matched with Barrett, who himself had been rescued for training as a puppy.
Barrett and James quickly bonded, and Barrett’s loyalty to his human evokes the deepest sense of emotion and gratitude for what James sacrificed and what Barrett so sacrificially offers James.
But amazing as Barrett was, he’s still a smart dog who liked to chew and tear apart toys. Even those that claimed to be ‘indestructible’ were no match for Barrett, and as there is a potential danger in the digestion of the toys, James wanted to find the strongest and safest product he could for Barrett.
Which is how the Barrett Ball came to be. He wanted a toy that Barrett would love and enjoy but not destroy, and not finding any on the market, he created his own. According to U.S. Senator Tamy Duckworth, it makes sense that U.S. Veterans are twice as likely to start their own companies. The Senator, herself a veteran, said that the resilience and determination of U.S. Veterans propels them to turn ideas into businesses, and that was the case for James.
James contacted several manufacturers to make his dream for Barrett come to life, and believe it or not, many companies didn’t jump at the chance to partner.
And then came Ethical Products…who not only wanted to help produce the solid rubber ball that was more durable than ever before, but wanted to make the profits from the ball make a difference. In fact, Ethical Pets wanted to make all the profits make a difference, and impressed by James’s and Barrett’s service to each other and their country, offered all the products’ profits to go back to the very organization that gave them each other in the first place. Every sale of the Barrett Ball brings 100% of the profits to the priceless non-profit who regularly matches service dogs with wounded warriors, and so Barrett and James can continue to give back to the organization that gave so much to them.
The Barrett Ball will be available in three sizes: small, medium and large, and prices will range from $6.99-$29.99. Perhaps most impressive, the Barrett Ball will come with a 100% lifetime guarantee. For the dog mom of aggressive chewers? That in itself is priceless.
The Barrett Ball is a great picture of how helping pets helps people help pets, and we love puts new meaning behind the word ‘ethical’ in Ethical Pets. Check out their site; they’ll be available in April, and trust me. You’re going to want these for your dog and your fellow humans!
